Dr Mutlaq M. Al-Qahtani Visits CAPS

On 29th January 2019, the Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS) hosted Dr Mutlaq M. Al-Qahtani, Special Envoy for the Foreign Minister for a dinner. Hekmat K. Karzai, CAPS Chairman extended warm welcome to Dr Al-Qahtani.
Dr. Qahtani and Mr. Karzai extensively discussed the recent meeting between the US and Taliban in Doha. Mr. Karzai said that the role Qatar played in the Afghan peace process was constructive and needed to continue.

Other topics discussed during the discussions were upcoming Afghan presidential elections, the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from Afghanistan and possible scenarios when or if peace talks with the Taliban prevail.

As this was Dr. Al-Qahtani first visit to CAPS, Mr Karzai provided an overview of CAPS along with details about its research and peace-building efforts.

In the meeting Wakil Ahmad Mutawakil, Abdul Salam Zaeef, Haji Muhamamd Akbar Agha, AllahDad Balkhi – all members of CAPS Advisory Shura – and Hekmatullah Azamy, CAPS Deputy Director were also present.

Dr. Al-Qahtani thanked CAPS for its arrangements during his visit and the opportunity to meet the CAS members. He also extended an invitation to Mr. Karzai and CAPS colleagues to visit Doha in the near future.
