Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS) invited British Ambassador to Afghanistan, Sir William Patey, to a lunch meeting on 06 March 2012. CAPS Director, Mr. Hekmat Khalil Karzai, welcomed the British Ambassador to the Centre and CAPS deputy director Miss Mariam, briefed him on the Centre’s activities as well as its recent assessment of Afghanistan Peace and Reintegration Program (APRP) in the Helmand province.
During the meeting CAPS Director and the British Ambassador discussed Afghan-U.S strategic partnership and the Afghan Peace program. They both exchanged views on international and regional cooperation towards the Afghan peace program and on Afghanistan’s interests in the strategic partnership with U.S.
The British Ambassador described Afghanistan as Britain’s biggest Foreign Service priority and highlighted that some of the most senior British diplomats have come to Afghanistan during last ten years to serve. CAPS Director thanked the Ambassador for the cooperation and aid that Britain extended towards Afghanistan and praised Britain’s efforts in improving governance and security in Helmand province. He also highlighted to the Ambassador the progress and activities of CAPS Youth Initiative in Helmand province.
