Abstract:

The first part of this paper will briefly explain the history of state building practices in Afghanistan, focusing primarily on various attempts at introducing national reform programs. The second part of this paper will briefly focus on explaining the state building process in Afghanistan, mainly focusing on the achievements of the Bonn Agreement which was held on December 5th, 2001 aimed at helping the reader understand the general framework of the state building process that took root in Afghanistan. The third part of this paper will elaborate more on the status of the relationship between state building and security and its influences on one another. The fourth part of the paper will describe the key challenges and recommendations to state building in Afghanistan, focusing mainly on the structural issues. This section also provides some recommendations for the policy makers to consider, while developing a strategy for effective process of state building in Afghanistan.(Fll Artical, file type (pdf) 113 KB)
