BIOGRAPHY
Brian R. Kerr is currently a Research Analyst at the Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS), one of the leading research centres in Kabul, Afghanistan.
His research interests include the political dynamics of Afghanistan's natural resource wealth, consequences of the security transition process, and tribal governance. He is also an astute observer of the international dynamics that influence Afghanistan's stability. His research has been published in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
In 2010, Mr. Kerr conducted extensive research in and around the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in Pakistan while attached to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies in Islamabad. In FATA he examined the role of Pashtunwali as a recruiting mechanism for militant groups, as well as the conflict-induced changes to Pashtun tribal governance in the region. His research in FATA became the foundation of his university dissertation, which was subsequently published in Pakistan.
This is Mr. Kerr's second position in Afghanistan; he previously worked with an international NGO constructing a community centre in Bamyan Province in 2007.
Mr. Kerr was born outside Sacramento, California. Naturally, English is his mother tongue. He has studied Spanish, Russian, and Persian.
