(Pajhwok): US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad is due in Kabul, Doha and the region, the State Departments said on Sunday. Khalilzad and an US inter-agency delegation, including National Security Council, Department of Defense and USAID representatives departed on June 4 for travel to the region. The delegation will meet in Kabul government, political leaders and civil society representatives, including women’s groups, to hear their views on the peace process. A statement from the State Department said the visiting team would underscore enduring US support for Afghanistan’s development and a political settlement that would end the war. In Doha, the US diplomat will continue to encourage both sides to make tangible progress towards a political settlement that protects the gains of the last two decades. Khalilzad will also meet leaders from regional countries to discuss the Afghanistan peace process and the potential for increased regional trade, commerce, and development that peace might bring.
