From 12-23 January 2015, CAPS Research Analysts Hekmatullah Azamy and Sayed Mujtaba Hashimy participated in a two-week comprehensive annual Terrorism Analyst Training Course (TACT) at the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR), one of six research centres within the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Focusing on issues related to security and stability in Asia Pacific, RSIS is a leading research and graduate teaching institution that offers Master degree in Strategic Studies, International Relations, Asian Studies, and International Political Economy.

The participants of the training course were from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kenya, The Maldives, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea and Singapore. Covering four broad areas namely Terrorism Primer, Global and Regional Threat Landscape, Counter Terrorism Response, and Research and Methodology, the training was aimed to enhance knowledge and build capacity of analysts specialising in counter terrorism.

During the training, Hekmatullah Azamy briefed the participants on “Afghanistan Post-US Withdrawal and Threat of Militancy”. Mr Azamy highlighted the gains and failures of the US longest war in Afghanistan and the possible fallout of US withdrawal on security and economy of the country as well as its regional implications.

Certificates were awarded to all 45 participants and the program concluded on 23 January 2015.
