KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States and the European Union have pledged respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Afghanistan.
Diplomats from the two sides, at a meeting in Washington, vowed to encourage all countries to support the current peace process, inclusive intra-Afghan talks and reconstruction in Afghanistan.
The State Department said on Friday US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad and EU Special Envoy Roland Kobia met for consultations on the Afghan peace process, on March 21-22.
“They agreed that bringing an end to Afghanistan’s war and achieving peace must be the key objective, and that violence should cease,” a statement from the State Department said.
Any peace agreement should uphold the rights of all Afghans, in particular those of women, minorities and children, the ambassadors agreed,
They also agreed on efforts to ensure Afghanistan’s soil was not used by international terrorist groups or individuals against any country.
